  FAQ

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict your movement. We practice with socks.

How long is a session?

Unless noted otherwise, Pilates Private Sessions and mat classes are 55 minutes. Yoga classes are 60-75 minutes. Thai Yoga Sessions run from one and a half hours to two hours long. Additionally, upon request, Private Yoga Sessions are available for 75-90 minutes.

What should I expect from a first session?

Your initial session is for you to experience the method and for your teacher to evaluate your needs. First you will fill out a health history questionnaire, and have a brief chat with your instructor about your goals, needs and any pertinent injuries. Then you will learn the fundamentals of the work both with the machines and matwork in the case of Pilates; asana and breathing practices in the case of Yoga; and a variety of range of motion, muscle testing techniques and recommendations of asana, pranayama and meditation in the case of Yoga Therapy. Your teacher will also address certain health or fitness goals in the session, customizing the lesson to your needs. It is in this first session that you begin a nurturing relationship with your teacher who will guide you towards meeting your goals, whether they are recovering from an injury or pregnancy, training for a sports event or race, losing weight or maintaining your current level of fitness. In addition to Yoga and Pilates, all Instructors at Premier Pilates are certified in other disciplines, including personal trainiing, spinning, yoga therapy, prenatal/postpartum and post-rehabilitation. In addition many of our instructors are competitive Cyclists and Marathon Runners with several years of racing experience under their belts and who continue to compete every year.

When should I start to see/feel results?

Everyone responds to pilates and yoga in different ways, and therefore results will vary from person to person. Both of these methods take time and a commitment to learn well. Once the commitment is made, you will see changes and experience the effects of being consistent, whether it's standing straighter, reducing a clothing size, or feeling more energized. Premier Pilates' goal is that you learn, have fun and get results! After every session, you will feel rejuvenated, relaxed and empowered.

How often should I practice pilates and/or yoga?

The more you practice the faster you will learn and retain it. Consider this similar to learning a language. Your vocabulary will increase as you practice in and out of class. We recommend 2 to 3 times per week for the best results, using a combination of private sessions and group classes. You can also attend one time per week in the studio, and for homework, practice some of the work on your own time. If you make that commitment to yourself, you will quickly begin to feel and experience the results!

Can anyone do Pilates or Yoga?

Anyone can do pilates and yoga regardless of the fitness level, whether you are male, female, young, old, fit or just beginning to get back in shape. Additionally, at Premier Pilates and Yoga, there are private sessions, semi-privates and group sessions in both the equipment as well as classes to appeal to a variety of people and budgets. We recommend, however, that beginners start with our introductory private session package of five sessions to acquaint yourself with the studio, the equipment and to correctly begin your journey into fitness. Your instructor will be able to design the appropriate exercise program for your needs. As you progress, changes are made accordingly to challenge you, if appropriate, but more importantly, to continually ensure that your goals are being addressed.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, we have a 24-hour cancellation policy. This policy is in place, because your teacher's time is valuable, as is your own time. However, we realize that emergencies do occur which may be out of your control, and for that reason, we allow two emergency cancellations per year.
